Millions of people are alive today due to improved farming practices derived from the Green Revolution. India with it's huge population is now a net exporter of food products. Crop varieties have been adapted to the regions grown which increases the yields and sustainability of food production. Unfortunately so many areas, particularly in Africa, do not have have the technology and are therefore more susceptable to adverse environmental conditons and their soils are nutrient depleted. It is my dream that the modern technolgy will be shared - the Bill & Linda Gates Foundation are on the right track. Whoever wrote it right now obviously wants to marry the green revolution and have its babies!!Apparently, and I quote, "The new economic difficulties of small holder farmers and landless farm workers led to increased rural-urban migration. The increase in food production led to a cheaper food for urban dwellers, and the increase in urban population increased the potential for industrialization." Well oh goody, small holder farmers have lost their livelihoods and their means of feeding their starving babies but it's ok cos we'll move them into the cities to be slave labor in sweatshops, and we've got cheap crap to feed 'em.
