Still on the road – today in Bangkok – so a short post. But the very very good news is that the Kennedy Road comrades were acquitted today. Regular readers will remember that they were protesting against a rather nasty local councillor. After a bit of a rumble on a major road, 14 people were swept up at random by the South African police, and charged with public violence. Rather than make an admission of guilt, the 14 went to trial. The judge took the opportunity to point out to the police that if they were going to bring cases of public violence, it helps to be able to prove that the people who are accused of a crime actually committed it, rather than prove that they were there when it happened. Good news all round.
