Following up on the DewMocracy post, it’s important to remember exactly what happened when thousands of us marched in the streets of Seattle, chanting “This Is What Democracy Looks Like”.
Not least because The Battle in Seattle: The Movie is about to be released. Activist friends who’ve seen it say it’s not nearly as bad as it could be, but they’ve set up The Real Battle In Seattle, to collect and share some of the images, testimonies and analyses from those five days. It isn’t just a way to innoculate people against some of the film’s more egregious errors. It’s a way of reclaiming history.
And I’m very pleased that, among the hundreds of accounts from the streets, they’ve posted some of mine, which originally appeared in Grist, which has kept all five dispatches online here: 29 Nov, 30 Nov, 1 Dec, 2 Dec, and 3 Dec.
