Compendium of food crisis bits and pieces

In haste, here are a few resources I’ve found useful in understanding that the current food crisis, sparked by drought and fire in Russia, isn’t so much a re-run of the 2008 disaster as an extension of it.

From the World Bank, an overview, and February and May 2010 summaries.

From the Council on Foreign Relations, a nice overview.

From the Financial Times, Lex, Javier Blas in the flesh and an overview page.

And, just today, the BBC reports that rice yields are going nuts.

In short, consumers in the Global North will be picking up the tab an industrial agricultural system that has been failing, with ongoing food protests in the Global South, for a while.
