I was asked to contribute to Letters to a Young Farmer, a collection patterned on Rilke’s Letters to a Young Poet. For inspiration, I re-read America’s poet laureate of the soil, Wendell Berry. His 1973 Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front is very good. Its last line:
Practice resurrection.
Berry’s faith, connection to nature, and purpose in two simple words. I had no advice to give in any way comparable, so that’s what I wrote. Except, now that I reread it, I do have a title
Practice Reparation.

Incidentally, Marion Nestle’s is here, and you can catch the rest – and support the work of the Stone Barns Center – by buying the through your local independent bookstore or here.
